Host: This is Naomi Alexis with your Activist Calendar. The next Sarasota School Board meeting will take place on Tuesday, September 5th at 6:30pm at the School Board Chambers, 1800 Landings Boulevard in Sarasota. School Board meetings are open to the public and held on the first Tuesday of the month at 6:30 and the third Tuesday of the month at 3. A friendly reminder that meetings are recorded live and can be accessed at sarasotacountyschools.net under the “Departments” tab.

The Sarasota Tiger Bay Club hosts their monthly luncheon on Thursday, September 7th from 12 to 1:30pm at Michael’s On East, 1212 South East Avenue, Sarasota. The event will feature a discussion of newly passed House Bill 543, the bill that allows Floridians to carry concealed weapons without a government-issued permit. For more information about Tiger Bay Club meetings, you can visit sarasotatigerbayclub.com or call 941-925-2970, MHI, the Multicultural Health Institute, a community coalition, meets on Facebook Live on Tuesday, September 5th from 7:30 to 8:30pm.

The League of Women Voters of Manatee County will be hosting a Zoom discussion on September 6th from 6 to 7pm. On the agenda is the impact of the Florida Supreme Court’s upcoming abortion case. This event takes place just two days before oral arguments begin on Florida’s 15-week abortion ban. A panel of the former state court justices will review the case, how we got here, and what’s at stake. The panel includes Justice Barbara Pariente, Meg Baldwin, Justice Peggy A. Quince. In Sarasota, the League of Women Voters Lunch and Learn takes place on Friday September 8th, from 1pm to 2pm. This series of biweekly meetings is open for members of League of Women Voters of Florida local chapters. All Florida members receive email notifications and Zoom links.
