Written by on Sunday, February 10, 2019

This Wednesday, February 13 at 9am, our first guest in the studio will be Lee E. Hayworth, former Chief Judge, Twelfth Judicial Circuit; court liaison, Early Childhood Court and Delinquency Intervention Team; and moderator, Suncoast Technical College’s Law and Sarasota educational program. Judge Hayworth has received many honors, including the Thomas Paine Award from the Florida Veterans for Common Sense for creating the Veterans Treatment Court.

Next we’ll have Sue Maloney of Protect Our Public Schools Manasota (POPS) and Carol Rescigno, the president of the Sarasota Chapter of the Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence. February 14 is the one year anniversary of the Parkland shooting at Marjory Stoneman High School which took the lives of fourteen students and three staff members. We’ll learn about the Brady Campaign goals to expand background checks, ban assault weapons and high-capacity magazines and enact Extreme Risk Protection Orders allowing family or law enforcement to temporarily remove guns from people in danger of hurting themselves or others. And we’ll talk about the Sandy Hook Promise Program for schools led by parents who lost their children at Sandy Hook Elementary School December 14, 2012.

There’s an event at Fogartyville Tuesday, February 19 – Guns and Schools: One Year After Parkland. It starts at 6:30.
