How to Keep Your Crops Safe From the Cold

The Jumping Mullet Report Friday, January 5, 2018

Sarasota and Manatee recently saw a week of 30 degree low weather.  In some areas in Sarasota, cars collected frost overnight, as reported by the Sarasota Police Department.

As an agriculturally rich city, Sarasota had to take measures to protect their crops and flora.

Laurel Schiller, Co-owner of Florida Native Plants nursery located in the north eastern side of Sarasota, explained how she keeps her nursery in tip-top shape during the “3-4 days of freezing weather of the year”.

The nursery specializes in native plants, which are plants original to Florida and Sarasota.  They also now have herbs and edibles that are, as Laurel says, “hearty of the region”.
