Our second guest will be Brena Slater of the Safe Children Coalition. We’ll talk about their mission and their COVID-19 resource page. It includes a way to find nearby free food for kids.
The Safe Children Coalition (SCC) has been the contracted lead agency with the Department of Children and Families to provide foster care, adoptions and related services in Circuit 12, covering Sarasota, Manatee and DeSoto counties, since 1997. SCC’s mission is to blend available resources to support, advocate, grow and educate the children and families we serve. As a 501(c)3 non-profit organization, SCC is committed to providing a diverse array of services to our most disadvantaged and at-risk children and families including early childhood literacy for low income families, a program for middle and high school students to help them succeed academically and counseling services for youth experiencing difficulties with truancy, runaway behavior or homelessness. We operate the only shelter for homeless, foster or runaway youth in Sarasota, serve over 1,500 abused and neglected children every day, help 150 youth get adopted annually, assist over 750 homeless youth stay in school, provide after school care at three elementary schools and manage 40 subcontracts providing services to our children and families.
