In 2018, the passage of Amendment 4 that intended to restore the right to vote for more than a million former felons was reason for all fans of fairness and democracy to cheer. And cheer they did until others in the state reminded them why it took a constitutional amendment to basically be fair to all. The legislature, who admitted they were opposed to such an increase in the electorate (as well as any other citizen initiative), found a way to dilute the amendment’s intent. Desmond Meade (above) executive director of the Florida Rights Restoration Coalition and the visionary leader who created the movement to get the measure on the ballot and passed is joining Steve and Lew to update us on the implementation of the this important civil rights step forward.
