There is booth a Charlie Miller soundboard AND a Hunter Seamons “matrix” recording out there, but
this AUD is one fine recording and an even FINER remaster…

This recording doesn’t give the taper’s location, but if it is a “Mouth Of The Beast” remaster, than I
believe both MOTB and taper Bob Wagner…scroll down for a paragraph on MOTB remasters.

These are the only four reviews of this particular recording:
REVIEW: amazing recording of a classic early 80s blowout
I highly recommend this recording! It sounds fantastic, like you are in the big spaceship Hampton. jerry
and brent are just at the top of their game, and you can really hear Phil thumping away in the
background.

REVIEW: Great show and recording
This was the show that hooked me forever. Crazy high energy: LIG > Deal, and the entire second set are
as good as it gets. Great recording, too.

REVIEW: Sweet FOB recording
MOTB srtikes again! This is an awesome FOB recording.

REVIEW: Amazing sound, fantastic energy
The MOTB crew delivered a stunner with this one. The sound is impeccable. If you enjoy full, rich,
crisp AUDs, this is definitely worth a listen. It’s FOB with very little crowd noise/clapping. The
performance is pretty darn good too. The boys are “on” with focused playing from both Jerry and Brent.
The second set has a fast pace with tons of energy.

These are the only two reviews of the Hunter Seamons matrix:
REVIEW: Just outta boot camp…
I was just out of USCG Boot Camp and assigned to a “C” school in Yorktown Va. The Dead were
starting the first leg of their East Coast Tour, and through “Special Services” I got 4 tickets for the
show. With the promise that I would buy the beer and hopefully a dube in the parking lot I had 3 willing
accomplices (one of which had a car). It was general admission seating, and I lead my buddies onto the
floor in front of the sound board smackdab in the middle of the microphone forest! My favorite memory
of that show, other than turning on 3 kids who had no idea what a Dead Show was like was watching a
wind-up toy bird flap over our heads during Jerry playing “Space”!

REVIEW: LET IT GROW
Easily the best version of the song ever performed during the Brent era. Hair-raising, lightening-fast
solos from Garcia. An electric event.

Reviews rom the 24 bit FLAC recording, from whence this 16 bit FLAC ws derived:
REVIEW: damn……….
Can an AUD get much better? I don’t think so. Outstanding work on this. An amazing show now has an
amazing source. I though the one I had could not get any better. Well, this does. Show is a high energy
fun-fest with few if any low points. Deal is a steam roller. Stranger>Franklins is a lethal weapon.
Fantastic start to finish.

REVIEW: for real Deal
for us Deal junkies this is a true treat. tip of the hat to tapers…thanks for rooting this one out.

REVIEW: amazing
One of the best audience recording you will ever hear, and one of the smoking-est shows ever!

REVIEW: A trip down memory lane
This was my first and only Grateful Dead concert. Thanks to everyone involved with taping this show. I
am forever Grateful!

You get the picture…

What is the “Mouth of the Beast”?
If you have ever listened to live recordings you will probably have noticed that not all recordings have
the same quality. It all depends on the gear used, the location of the mics and of course the band’s
groove. Back behind the soundboard, the taper section was not the ideal location for recording. And
those crisp soundboard tapes, they leave out the full experience of the show. The missing sound is the
dynamics of being up close to the stage while the band performed. Up front, dead center in the first
fifteen rows is where “the sound” was ideal. The tapers knew this was the spot. They braved security
and the bands’ roadies to make these tapes. This project has been started to preserve, archive and
distribute these rare recordings. This project is for the fans — who want to experience recordings made
in the “Mouth of the Beast”. We refer to this project as MOTB.
