The Sarasota City Commission will be discussing cannabis, the Bay Park, shrinking police panels, and the sale of a brownfield. In a closed meeting, it will ponder a possible settlement with the family of a man who died after police beating.

Special City Commission Meeting (backup material)

Immediately following conclusion of regular city commission meeting.

That meeting is closed to the public. The city attorney and commissioners will discuss whether to pursue a legal settlement with the family of John Kaafi, who died in the hospital after a traffic stop and beatings in police custody in 2015. Kaafi’s family is suing two police officers and the city for wrongful death and are seeking damages.
