“There Is NOTHING like a Grateful Dead concert!”

Jerry Garcia & Merl Saunders
Great American Music Hall
San Fransisco., CA

November 28, 1974
Soundboard Master Reel > PCM > DAT

Not your typical Jerry Band. Long jams, either bluesy jazz or jazzy blues…

A superb soundboard! Jerry’s voice is a tad background, but the instruments and the performance are up

This concert was played just two weeks or so before the band added Ron Tutt on drums in place of Paul
Humphrey, and became “The Legion Of Mary”.

“Pure Jerry: Keystone Berkeley, September 1, 1974” is a three-CD live album by the Jerry Garcia and
Merl Saunders Band. It contains the complete concert performed at the Keystone in Berkeley, California
on September 1, 1974. The fourth in the “Pure Jerry” series of archival concert albums, it was released on
December 28, 2004.

In addition to Garcia on guitar and vocals and Saunders on keyboards and vocals, the lineup of Legion of
Mary included Martin Fierro on saxophone and flute, John Kahn on bass, and Ron Tutt on drums, in
place of Paul Humphrey. The band existed from December 1974 to July 1975. “Garcia Live Volume
Three” was recorded on their first tour.
