REVIEW: pretty muddy for a soundboard recording
good show, good setlist, but the soundboard obviously lost a lot of quality when trasported to tape.
listenable but I wouldn’t recomend playing this one if you want to hear a clear sound board recording.
REVIEW: Sounds good–good show
Mix not perfect–instrument/vocals position variable–but sound certainly OK overall. 80’s are not my
personal favorite perod but this is a very tasty run–high energy, Jerry’s on top of the material. Anything
less than 3 stars IMHO is a tad over critical.
REVIEW: china rider
wow. rating comes from certain highlights- but, THEY ARE WORTH IT. show is uneven, but what’s
great is great. i really recommend this china rider. play it loud. transition is great- but spliced? why?
is there a copy out there that is not spliced? huge bummer. but, the best is right after the transition. first
jam of rider. lyrical, and so sweet. play it loud. rest of the show, garcia screws up the words here and
there, but the playing is damn good. try althea. one of my favorites. also, after cumberland, you can very
fainlty hear one of them say- “man, we got it tonight!” then – “nice jam”. not sure who’s talking, but i
agree.
REVIEW: nice show indeed
I just gave the China/Rider and Cumberland a listen. Sounds good to me, smokin’ in fact. The reviewers
seem to be a bit more critical about the sound than I am; it sounds fine to me, vocals are clear. Brent
especially is nice and crisp on the keys. I just love that sound he’s got during this era. One of my favorite
eras because of it….that and they hadn’t quite settled in to savage predictability yet.
REVIEW: Stella Blue
5 Stars for this Stella Blue. It may not be as weeping as the 1978 April Rupp Arena Stella Blue, or as
poignant as 1979.1.11 Nassau Stella, but it’s something. Brent and the Rhythm Devils speed up the pace
after an inspired extended Garcia solo, really brings through a crisp feeling. It has been said that this tour
Jerry was very stoned and that the band had to write him a letter about his lacking of communiqué
musically and general unreliability. This recording, as well as the Melk Weg show, confirm if he was too
stoned, they were still managing to play well.

REVIEW: Estimated>Going Down the Road…
While I normally shun “best versions of” bravados, (and still won’t make this THE version)this version of
Estimated is really fantastic. Really funky whammy and Jerry is blistering during the jam break. In fact,
the only flaw I found was that Bobby came back in too soon (“my time coming any day….”). The
GDTRFB following, btw, is HOT HOT too – in fact, it may just steal the thunder!! This one is a cooker,
again led by Jerry.
REVIEW: goin’ down the road
Is Jerry pissed or what’s up? he’s just mashing out the chords hard and double-time or sounds to me
anyway. it’s jammin’ don’t get me wrong but way different then you usually hear those long kinda loping
along jams . I really get into the whole 79 thru 83 period where some don’t. It’s a lot more uptempo a little
less experimental in your face jamming imo but everyone’s got one of those and luckily able to express it
in this country anyway. All in all I kinda like this show not great but definitely a good listen.

To the previous reviewers point, seems Jerry was missing it on first solo of the song so he slammed down
on an E chord the. Proceeded to get it together and man did he play with fury.
