This Wednesday, January 22 at 9am, we’ll hear State College of Florida Professor Philip Travis talk about when a country with no military ended two wars: Costa Rica and the Treaty of Esquipulas. His discussion will be based on an interview that he conducted a few years ago with the President of Costa Rica and Nobel Prize recipient Oscar Arias Sanchez. Oxford University Press published it a few years ago, but Phil has never presented the piece.
Phil says, “The story is very interesting with a good back story for young travelers and researchers as well as pertinent lessons about the importance of diplomacy, which are so greatly needed today.”
