By the end of this month The Supreme Court is due to rule on the constitutionality of a proposed question for the upcoming 2020 Census asking for citizenship status. Opponents say that the purpose of the Census is not count citizens but needs to get an accurate measure of everyone living in a particular area and that adding the “citizenship question” will diminish participation. Billions of dollars in funding, as well as allocation of representation in Congress is at stake. Proponents of the measure allege the question is necessary to uphold the Voting Rights Act of 1965. Joining Steve and Lew will be former Colorado Congresswoman Patricia Schroeder (above) who during her two dozen years in Congress, worked on the committees that oversaw Census preparation and execution. She was also a member of the House when it considered beginning impeachment proceedings against Richard Nixon, which he avoided by resigning. Sounds like a great plan for present.
