This Wednesday, November 24 at 9am on the Peace & Justice Report, we’ll interview Carolina Franco, the President of CreArte Latino.
CreArte Latino was founded in 2012 as a creative hub for the Latino community in Sarasota and Manatee Counties. In 2016, CreArte Latino became a 501(c)3 non-profit organization and increased its performance schedule to four full-length plays annually, one children’s theatre production, and its first Spanglish Improv Comedy show. Then in 2017, CreArte Latino elected Carolina Franco as its new President and Artistic Director. Soon after, the organization expanded its programming, youth and adult education options, and artist roster.
The Cultural Center now produces and performs an average of nine plays annually and collaborates with artists from Sarasota and throughout Latin America. In addition to scripted productions, the organization now hosts concerts with Latin artists as well as improvised theatre. Today, the organization’s board consists of local artists, theatre executives, and active members of the community.
Later in the program we’ll talk to Newtown Nation leader Valerie Buchand and Rachael Johnson about the problems with affordable housing in Sarasota.
